A number of people have written to us to ask how long our Phonics Training Online course will take to complete.
We offer the guidance that there is approximately 20 hours of audio-video material delivered in 14 'Modules'.
The Modules are different from one another in their length and content so we cannot give precise information about length of completion of each Module. The Modules are also broken up into different sections - some have more sections than others.
In addition to the time taken to listen to the audio accompanied by detailed slides (which we provide in two different formats for those people who would like printed copies of the slides), we also provide links to many additional resources and information for those people who are interested in delving further.
There are a few simple and straightforward multiple choice and fill-in-the-word questions to complete after each Module.
People who have registered for our self-study course will take different lengths of time to complete the course - and over different periods of time.
We notice that some people complete the course very quickly (for example, in one month) and others complete the course over several months.
The course material is available automatically for one year - and if anyone requires an extension to access the materials longer than one year, they simply have to approach us and we will arrange the extension.
For the extension period, contact David at support@phonicsinternational.com .

I would like to add that the Phonics Training Online course is detailed and comprehensive but not difficult - and the multiple choice questions, or the fill-in-the-word questions, are straightforward and not difficult.
The course and its accompanying resources are highly practical for training, continuing professional development and for your teaching purposes.

Sometimes when people write to us for information, they show that they are confused between the Phonics Training Online self-study course - and the Phonics International programme - the resources of which are provided online mainly as pdfs.
This is the homepage for the Phonics International 'programme':
https://phonicsinternational.com
This is the homepage for the Phonics Training Online self-study 'course' - which provides information about my approach to phonic - and also information about BOTH the Phonics International programme and the Oxford Reading Tree Floppy's Phonics programme (Oxford University Press):

Another frequently asked question is about the 'age range' catered for by the Phonics International programme's resources. Children can start at age 4+ dependent on your context, and the scope of the programme covers any age where the need is there to learn the English alphabetic code for reading and spelling.
Children are well taught by half way through the Phonics International programme (Units 1 to 6) which is already excellent coverage of the letter/s-sound correspondences of the alphabetic code.
Even older learners may need content from these earlier Units - so don't let 'age' be a barrier to any part of the programme's resources.
The vocabulary in Units 7 to 12 is suitable for older learners - but some of the vocabulary in the final Units of work is not suitable for young learners.
UPDATE: PLEASE NOTE THE FULL PHONICS INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME INCLUDING THE 'EARLY YEARS STARTER PACKAGE' IS NOW COMPLETELY FREE (since Jan 2021).
The Phonics International programme was re-validated by the Department for Education in England in July 2021 (originally DfE validated in 2011).
In addition, 'No Nonsense Phonics' has now been DfE validated as a full systematic synthetic phonics programme in its own right for mainstream and intervention (July 2021).
See here for information about 'No Nonsense Phonics':

Another development is that the DfE validated the 'Wand Phonics' digital body of work created by me and published by Wand Education - as long as Wand Phonics is used along with the Phonics International programme and/or the No Nonsense Phonics programme.
You can read about the Wand Phonics programme via information provided on the homepage of Phonics International. I've ensured that the Wand Phonics resource can be provided in the home for pupils via the school licence. This means that full audio is provided for teaching the 'code - that is the 'sounds' of the letter/s-sound correspondences, plus modelled word blending (decoding) and word segmenting for spelling (encoding), plus speech is provided to match the cumulative, decodable texts. Modelled letter formation is also included for the letter/s-sound correspondences:

Re: Commonly asked question: 'How long does the PTO course take?
The following question has been asked a couple of times regarding access for deaf student-teachers to our Phonics Training Online course:
Debbie
X
David researched options and replied thus:Good Afternoon,
As a University we have purchased Phonics International for our trainee teachers and have used this successfully over the last few years.
This year we have a trainee teacher who is deaf and uses BSL and teaches at a school for the deaf.
Before I ask the trainee teacher to access your training programme I wondered if you could confirm whether the videos are subtitled at all?
I hope this helps. The native video files are not, unfortunately, subtitled.
There is a solution however.
If the videos are viewed via a Google Chrome browser, there is a Google facility (Live Capture) built into the browser to generate subtitles.
I have tested the subtitle generator and found it to be very accurate.
More information can be found in this YouTube video:
https://youtu.be/KDP8a5s8yaU
Other YouTube videos may explain and demonstrate the ‘Live Capture’ should you wish to do a search.
Regards,
David
