A number of people have written to us to ask how long our Phonics Training Online course will take to complete.

We offer the guidance that there is approximately 20 hours of audio-video material delivered in 14 'Modules'.

The Modules are different from one another in their length and content so we cannot give precise information about length of completion of each Module. The Modules are also broken up into different sections - some have more sections than others.

In addition to the time taken to listen to the audio accompanied by detailed slides (which we provide in two different formats for those people who would like printed copies of the slides), we also provide links to many additional resources and information for those people who are interested in delving further.

There are a few simple and straightforward multiple choice and fill-in-the-word questions to complete after each Module.

People who have registered for our self-study course will take different lengths of time to complete the course - and over different periods of time.

We notice that some people complete the course very quickly (for example, in one month) and others complete the course over several months.

The course material is available automatically for one year - and if anyone requires an extension to access the materials longer than one year, they simply have to approach us and we will arrange the extension.

For the extension period, contact David at support@phonicsinternational.com .

I would like to add that the Phonics Training Online course is detailed and comprehensive but not difficult - and the multiple choice questions, or the fill-in-the-word questions, are straightforward and not difficult.

The course and its accompanying resources are highly practical for training, continuing professional development and for your teaching purposes.

Another point I wish to clarify is the difference between the self-study, 'Phonics Training Online' course which is now 'nearly free' at only £20 - as distinct from the annual licence to the full Phonics International PROGRAMME (and the 'Early Years Starter Package' resources which is like a programme within a programme) - which is also (another) £20.

Sometimes when people write to us for information, they show that they are confused between the Phonics Training Online course - and the Phonics International programme.

This is the homepage for the Phonics International 'programme':

This is the homepage for the Phonics Training Online self-study 'course' - which provides information about my approach to phonic - and also information about BOTH the Phonics International programme and the Oxford Reading Tree Floppy's Phonics programme (Oxford University Press):

Another frequently asked question is about the 'age range' catered for by the Phonics International programme's resources. Children can start at age 4+ dependent on your context, and the scope of the programme covers any age where the need is there to learn the English alphabetic code for reading and spelling.

Children are well taught by half way through the Phonics International programme (Units 1 to 6) which is already excellent coverage of the letter/s-sound correspondences of the alphabetic code.

Even older learners may need content from these earlier Units - so don't let 'age' be a barrier to any part of the programme's resources.

The vocabulary in Units 7 to 12 is suitable for older learners - but some of the vocabulary in the final Units of work is not suitable for young learners.
