Discussion about teaching handwriting in America

More online debate about teaching handwriting.

Just for the record:

I am ALSO in support of teaching 'touch-typing' for competent keyboard skills - but not at the expense of teaching print and joined handwriting. I don't view this as an either/or scenario.

I suggest that if teachers were better at teaching print and joined handwriting, then this wouldn't be such an issue in the first place.

In other words, should people be debating whether or not we should teach handwriting - and whether we should teach joined (fully cursive) handwriting - or should the discussions be around how well teachers teach handwriting - and whether teacher-training addressed this skill in the first place?
