I invite primary schools to set children off with a writing activity, then take a look around the class to see exactly how the children sit, how they hold their pencils, what they do with their spare hand, how they angle their paper, and whether they actually write from 'above' the words - in effect, writing the words from the top and not from beneath.
I suspect that many a teacher is quite shocked on taking an honest look at the children's habits.
How do children write in your infant or primary school?
How do you teach them to write?
And was your method effective and long-term?
