I am very grateful to get the chance to share my views on the use of nonsense words in phonics practice compared to their use in phonics assessment - there is an important difference!

I welcome the Year One phonics screening check and its use of nonsense words for assessment - but I am concerned about the over-use of nonsense word games in daily phonics practice - hear why:
