Sam Bailey's fantastic talk at RRF conference 2015

Post by debbie »

Listen and watch this video footage carefully - this is an inspirational and detailed talk by a wonderful headteacher of a previously struggling school in England:

Sam uses Oxford Reading Tree Floppy's Phonics Sounds and Letters in her school, (as she did in her previous school), followed by Phonics International for the older children to bring their reading up to speed and to continue with phonics for spelling - building up spelling word banks.

Read about Sam Bailey's school's remarkable leap in standards:

Top marks for Kendray school

A KENDRAY primary school is one of the most improved in the country.

The Forest Academy, a member of the Wellspring group, is the most improved school in the region and among the top ten most improved schools in England this year.
Figures from the Department for Education show a phenomenal 50 per cent leap in one year of the number of 11-year-olds working at the level expected for their age.

Similar exceptional progress was recorded at the school by children in year one phonics and in standards achieved by seven-year-olds.
The remarkable turn around in fortunes at the Thornton Road school has been achieved under the inspired leadership of principal Sam Bailey.

Mrs Bailey said of the school's success: "The progress made at Forest these past 12 months is extraordinary. I have a wonderful staff team who are determined to be their best selves every day. We are blessed to have fantastic children who inspire us to be better than ever before, and a wonderful community behind us."

Full story in this week's Barnsley Chronicle, dated Friday October 23.

Sam's presentation is fantastic and yet, to date, there are not that many views. I think this is a wasted resource as Sam covers so much really important CPD content in her talk.

I've now created a blog post and have called upon Sam's literacy results and her video footage to demonstrate how the same teachers equipped with a supportive 'body of work' can make a remarkable and rapid improvement to children's learning.
