I was very pleased to have the document (link on this page) which clearly shows that Universities in England need to take the training of student-teachers in 'systematic synthetic phonics' extremely seriously.

Surveying the student-teachers themselves is one way of ascertaining quality of training and effectiveness.
One concern might be, however, that student-teachers themselves don't know what they don't know - so I wouldn't want to evaluate quality of student-teacher training on this premise alone but would want to see first hand what lecturers are imparting!
Nevertheless - encouraging progress indeed!
